SKA Delivers Winter Aid to 700 Vulnerable Families in Kabul

Kabul, Afghanistan / Toronto, Canada — The Sayed Kayan Association (SKA) has successfully completed the distribution of winter aid packages to 700 underprivileged families in Kabul, reaffirming its commitment to supporting vulnerable communities in Afghanistan alongside its cultural and educational work abroad.

This initiative follows SKA’s earlier humanitarian effort in spring 2024, when the Association provided emergency relief to 750 families affected by floods in Baghlan Province. Recognizing the ongoing hardship caused by poverty, unemployment, and economic instability in Afghanistan, SKA leadership resolved to launch a winter campaign to assist needy families at the start of the season.

Aid Distribution

Between December 21–26, 2024 (1–6 Jadi 1403), aid packages were distributed to families identified as most in need. Each package included:

  • 1 bag of flour (50 kg)
  • 1 bag of rice (36 kg)
  • 1 bottle of cooking oil (10 liters)

Collective Effort Across Borders

The initiative was made possible through the generous contributions of SKA members and supporters in Canada, the U.S., the UK, France, and Germany. A fundraising committee, led by Mr. Hamidullah Ahmadi (General Coordinator) and Mr. Abdul Hamid Adil (Secretary), worked tirelessly to mobilize resources over the course of one month. Committee members in the U.S., UK, France, and Germany played an instrumental role in raising the funds needed for the campaign.

The second phase focused on needs assessment and transparent distribution. SKA partnered with the National Ismaili Council of Afghanistan, whose 54 representatives helped identify the most vulnerable families within Kabul’s community.

Local Implementation

A dedicated distribution team in Kabul, led by Professor Bismillah Atash, ensured that high-quality goods were procured and delivered to the identified families. The team, consisting of respected community members, oversaw the logistical and organizational aspects of the aid effort with diligence and transparency.

Gratitude and Commitment

The Sayed Kayan Association expresses its heartfelt appreciation to all members, donors, and volunteers who contributed their time, resources, and expertise to make this initiative possible.

This winter aid program demonstrates SKA’s growing role as both a cultural institution and a humanitarian actor, dedicated to preserving Afghan heritage abroad while standing in solidarity with those in need at home.
